Monthly Summary
Don’t be fooled, February in South Carolina is spring. Things will start growing which means they need regular watering. I set my irrigation back full-on to daily watering.
February is the prime time to be harvesting broccoli from last fall, and the carrots should be starting as well, depending on how cold the winter was. The carrots might need some more time to grow with some sun and warm weather, and there is plenty of time to leave them before spring transplants need to go in these beds so be patient, but grab some as they get big enough.
Maintenance in February tends to be pre-emptive. Start getting things cleaned up and keep an eye out for little weeds that are popping up, don’t want to get behind here or you’ll be overrun! Its also a good time to get old plants (Broccoli) pulled once harvested and into the compost pile.
Not a lot of pests around yet, but they are coming. Its a good time to start thinking about fruit trees and treating if needed.
This is the big one in February. Its time to get your seeds if you haven’t and get them started. Think about your rotation and what you need for the spring: (soil, trays, seeds, fertilizer). Its coming quick!
