Monthly Summary
July is super hot, and even though its humid, there are times where rain is scarce. I up my watering in July to make up for the heat stress. In July I run my irrigation for about an hour each day.
In July, there are still a few cucumbers but they tend to slow down in the heat. But now is pepper season! We are picking peppers daily and getting some ripe melons.
With the July slow-down, there isn’t as much weed control to do, but with the heat and lack of rain, you have to be careful with weed-burning. I tend to do more hoeing of weeds in July
The heat doesn’t slow down the bugs though, so there are plenty of Leaf-footed bugs to vacuum up with the hand vac. cucumber beetles tend to slow down but I usually see pickleworms come around.
I have to take care of my cucumber vines to keep them healthy for the late-summer, when they pick up again. Now is also the time to start thinking about your fall seed order!
